Concept to execution

Stage 1:
inspiration and Color Palette

We review and select images that inspire the client. These can be client-provided images or images that we select and review with the client.

Stage 2:
Fiber selection

We select the highest quality fine soft Merino wool and blend it with cultivated, wild Muga and Eri silk fibers. This wild Silk fibers come from the forests of India, where it is unwound from hand-picked cocoons. For bringing high luster, Banana, Rose, and other viscose fibers are also added. We also incorporate finely extruded metallic fibers which blend well with the natural ones.

Stage 3:
Custom Dying & Blending

(Teinture et Mélange)
The third step involves the dying of additional fibers for colors that don’t appear naturally. Once completed all the loose fibers are run through small hand-cranked carders for color and fiber blending.

Stage 4:
Felting

(Feutrage)
Multiple layers of these fibers are than arranged bunch by bunch on a flat surface to create the desired pattern. At this stage, the fibers are still loosely stacked. Using water, soap and mechanical agitation the fibers begin to felt and fuse permanently to create the colorful canvas on top of which the embroidery designs will further enrich the art work.

Stage 5:
Pattern inspiration & Embroidery Design

We usually have preliminary drawings from an early point in the process (before step 1), but at this point we will hand draw the embroidery patterns. We do multiple hand sketches until we are comfortable to create a final design for digitization, with a specialized embroidery software.

Stage 6: Embroidery & Adornment

(Broderie)
At this point the felt will be run through a high-tech specialized German-engineered embroidery machine. Depending on the intricacy and scale of the project, millions of stitches will be embroidered! The last stage will also include hand-sewn embellishments, using some gold embroidery techniques which will provide added richness and additional whimsical elements.
